Halloween!

We had a great Halloween celebration on Friday. It started off with a fun parade. We had some really great costumes in our class. We saw Michael Jackson, a mummy, a granny, some sports players, a couple devils and angels, and many more! After the parade, we did some regular fifth grade stuff (you know, reading, writing and arithmetic). Then in the afternoon we had a fantastic party with a really exciting game, a yummy treat, a cute craft and some hilarious mad libs! This holiday could not be a success without the help of all of my parent volunteers. Thanks to all the parents who brought smiles (and blackened teeth) to my costumed pupils! To the Colonies and Beyond!

As mentioned earlier we traveled to the colonies last week. I've told you about our trip to the New England Colonies, now let me tell you about the Middle and Southern Colonies. In the Middle Colonies, our girls made butter for our delicious wheat bread. We also solved riddles and made up some of our own. Do you know which room is not in a house? Ask your students! Then on Thursday we traveled to the Southern Colonies and got to eat some rice, which was one of their main cash crops. We also made Freedom Quilt Squares. We had a lot of fun in the thirteen colonies, but the next day we were ready for an out-of-this-world experience!


On Friday, we had the opportunity to travel to the Romulan Neutral Zone (all from the safety of the Christa McAuliffe Space Center) and study the star Betelegeuse. We did run into some trouble along the way, but completed our mission with flying colors. In the end we were not sucked into the black hole and were saved by the Romulans because of our generosity. Way to go crew!!!

Traveling to the Colonies!

Yesterday we traveled to the New England Colonies and experienced some of the fun things there! We played hopscotch made pilgrim hats and ate cornbread and SARDINES! It was a lot of fun and today after lunch we get to travel to the Middle Colonies.

This Week's Homework

Fall Break is this Thursday and Friday. We only have 3 days this week so we will not have any spelling homework. The math homework will be pgs. 13 and 15. These can be found with last week's homework on my UEN page. the link is under the Homework Links section. Also, to those of you who are gone this week: Be safe, we miss you and can't wait for your return!

Honoring Heather Christensen

At Barratt we would like to honor Heather Christensen, who gave her life this weekend to save many AFHS band members lives. Ms. Christensen had many connections to our current and former Barratt students. We will be honoring her by wearing our school colors, red and black, tomorrow, Oct. 13.

Thank you Heather for your dedicated service and sacrifice!

Fundraiser

Today in Wednesday Folders you received the packet for this year's fundraiser. Barratt is selling cookie dough again this year (which I am grateful for, LOVE that cookie dough!). We are also selling Sally Foster products. In the Sally Foster catalog you will find wrapping paper, gifts, CHOCOLATES and other items that will appeal to a lot of people. I have personally used the wrapping paper and love it. Another great gift idea I saw in the catalog was a Snowman Kit. It has everything you need to make a snowman (except the snow). Take a look at all these great items and help your children sell to your coworkers, friends and relatives. The funds Barratt receives through this sale go toward many great activities and events for your students!

SEP's and Book Fair

Wednesday and Thursday are SEP conferences! Your assigned time was sent home in last week's Wednesday Folders. I am excited to see you. Please bring your student with you to the conference and they will receive a ticket to enter the drawing at the Book Fair. While you are here at the conferences make sure you stop by the Book Fair and help support our library!
